Tikanga
The following describes the manner in which CCN will operate to achieve the vision.
As combined statements of intent they bring relevance to the overall outcome that CCN is seeking to support and achieve.
Nau te rourou naku te rourou, ka ora te tangata
By your contribution and my contribution wellness besets all
Nau te rakau naku te rakau, ka mate te ngangara
By the combined efforts of all we will remove adversary
This represents the equal responsibility CCN has across the eight DHB regions. Let’s not be afraid to share and acknowledge the skill of all involved in the journey of cancer. By sharing our gifts we shall all thrive. The ‘ngangara’ is the only barrier ahead, visualising the issues and challenges that cancer presents. Exposing differences between scientific views and cultural world views echos the challenges involved in the care and experiences. We must consider how we improve our responsiveness to gain best health outcomes for all.
Whakapapa Pounamu
Preseveration of lineage
Through the phases of life the knowledge of cancer will improve and consolidate the future of our generations. The pounamu is regarded as a taonga (treasure) and brings with it integrity. The importance of something so small resonates with that which is superior - lineage preseveration. Whakapapa includes not just the genealogies but the many spiritual, mythological and human stories that we experience throughout a lifetime. In protecting our lineage we achieve improved quality of life, therefore whanau ora is achieved.
Ka mohio ka whakatipu
Knowing is Growing
What you don’t know I know, what you know I should know. No one is superior then anyone, we all come with the same usefulness. Through cognizance comes understanding; through understanding comes knowledge; through knowledge comes life and wellbeing. In order to move forward we must all work together to understand. The more knowledge we all have the more understanding we will all have growing and sharing together. Enlightenment attained.
